ALWAYS LEARNING… ALWAYS GROWING

I have always believed that every day is an opportunity to learn and hone your skills. And when that opportunity meant flying 13 hours, twice for that matter to my favorite city in the world, New York City, I simply had to take it.

My 1st trip to the Big Apple was in 2013, Autumn in New York, to meet and learn from Kim Kardashian's Make Up Artist, Mario Dedivanovic. It was the perfect backdrop to the city's changing leaves :) In that workshop he showed us how to re create the famous contouring and highlighting technique that Kim is so known for.

What I love about Mario, aside from his talent, of course, was his humility. Reminded me so much of my idol, Kevyn Aucoin. :)

Aside from learning during the workshop, I also met so many lovely, budding make up artists like myself. :)

Here are some snaps from that trip :)

CENTRAL PARK

AUTUMN IN NEW YORK

The second opportunity for me to learn from the best came in February 2014. I did date the city on Valentines day but it wasn't as romantic considering it was -13 when I arrived in JKF. But I braved the snow laden streets of New York and the face freezing wind to meet Jennifer Lopez' Make Up Artist, Scott Barnes. :)

He was exactly how I envisioned him, gorgeous, gregarious and his technique is like magic!

What I noticed though from these two phenomenal Make Up Artists is the weight that they put on creating the flawless skin. This is something that I have also taken upon myself. I believe that the skin has to glow and look perfect in natural light just as it looks seamless in front of the camera.

Apart from the techniques that I have learned and have been using, what I will take with me wherever I go and all throughout my career is to always remind my clients exactly how I see them, BEAUTIFUL.

THE GLAMAZON IN ME

Two Fridays go I was invited by one of the top glossies in Dubai to participate in a photoshoot. The nature of which I cannot disclose at the moment but I am so excited for the release of the issue! I can't wait to share it with all of you. :)

For the photoshoot I decided to go Full on Glam complete with my signature Vavavoom Hair! hehehe. I have listed all the products below and I hope that you all like it :)

I have a lot of Celebrity inspired Make Up looks coming up. Stay tuned everyone :)

THE GLAMAZON IN ME! RAWR!!! LOL!

FACE PREP
I always start with a well moisturized face. For this, I turn to my trusty Embryolisse Lait Creme Concentrate. I also make sure that my lips are well moistured for lipstick application and for this I only use my Nuxe Reve de Miel lip balm. I have this in my prokit as well because it applies matte and perfect for any lipstick consistency.

THE FLAWLESS BASE
I do not follow a strict methodology when it comes to make up application. There are occasions when I use a setting spray first. It really depends on my mood and my client. For this look though, I highlighted  (shade D406) and contoured (shade D13)  first using my Kryolan cream concealer and then stippled my Dior Air Flash Foundation (shade 300). Whenever I do face for photoshoots I try to bake a bit and no product does this better than  Ben Nye's Banana powder. I applied MAC's Warm Soul Blush on the apples of my cheeks and highlighted further with Kevyn Aucoin's Candlelight.

THE BROWS
I used my Ben Nye Eye Brow Pencil in Medium Brown and to set it, I used Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Gel in Brunette.

1st photo shows one brow finished.
2nd photo shows both brows done and the baking process taking place.

FOR MESMERIC EYES
I primed my eyes using MAC's paint pot in Painterly. I applied Naked from the Original Naked Palette from Urban Decay as a transition shade on my crease and blended. To intensify, I added Buck on the outer V and blended. I normally skip winged liners. For this look, I used MAC's Feline Eye pencil on the lash line and blended it. I also used the same pencil to tight line and on my waterline. I smudged my waterline with Darkhorse. I used my Kevyn Aucoin Last Curler and applied two coats of Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara. Before leaving for the photoshoot, I decided to apply individual lashes. I prefer this over strip lashes. It is more tedious but I feel that it makes for a more natural look :)

FOR POUTY LIPS
I lined my lips with MAC's Spice Lipliner and filled it in with INGLOT's Lip Paint in 51 topped with MAC's Lip Glass in Viva Glam Gaga 2.

THE MAGIC THAT IS MAKE UP

Whether you are a face powder and go kind of girl or a full on glam one, you cannot deny the life changing effects of Make Up. There are days when you just feel blah and the moment you cover your dark circles, the mood changes…almost instantly. This is what I love about make up… instant gratification! lol!

As a Make Up Artist, it feels amazing when your client looks at herself in the mirror and says, "I look beautiful." And thanks you for your work but what I just did was to bring out that beauty that's been there all a long.

Long after the make up has been removed, what I want all my clients to remember is how I saw them even before I applied on their make up. I believe that all women are beautiful and it is my job to remind them, if they have forgotten, make them see it, if they don't know and to make them look and feel like a million bucks during important occasions.

While being a Make Up Artist may be regarded as a job for others, I see it differently. For me, it is about seeing that woman in my make up chair, her various roles in life and translating all that on a canvas that is her face. :)
A WOMAN WHO IS ABOUT TO GET MARRIED IS AT HER MOST RADIANT!
I AM ALL ABOUT PERFECTING THE SKIN.
AND ACHIEVING THAT GLOW.

MAKE UP MAKES YOU SEE A DIFFERENT, BOLDER SIDE OF YOU.

DON'T BE AFRAID TO STEP OUT OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE.
IT IS JUST MAKE UP, IF IT DOESN'T WORK, YOU CAN WIPE IT OFF
BUT I THINK THAT ALL WOMEN SHOULD HAVE A SIGNATURE RED LIP! :)

COLOR CORRECTION TO BRING OUT THOSE BEAUTIFUL EYES.

WHEN IN LOS ANGELES, YOU HAVE TO GO FULL ON GLAM!

YOU DONT HAVE TO PILE ON THE FOUNDATION TO COVER SOME BLEMISHES. IT IS ALL ABOUT SPOT CONCEALING :)

IT IS ALL ABOUT THE GLOW.

MAKE UP IN BALANCE.

IT IS ALL IN THE DETAILS.

I WILL ALWAYS LOVE FULL BROWS.

UPCLOSE AND PERSONAL

For the past 7 years I have been conducting FACES by Anna de Leon, an annual Make Up workshop, which was geared towards teaching women the fundamentals of skincare (imperative need) when you want a flawless face, and the art of bringing out your best through Make Up.

Make Up can be your ally. For years I have shared my knowledge to so many women. After the workshop I arm them with what I call "makeup counter confidence."

Although the workshop was an amazing platform to teach, I find that it is difficult to address all their burgeoning beauty questions, hence, UPCLOSE and PERSONAL.

UPCLOSE and PERSONAL is a one on one session with me where you can ask me all the  beauty questions that has been plaguing you! lol! We will talk about skincare, how to create the flawless face without packing too much foundation, contour, highlighting, the perfect eye shadow application for your eyes.

This 5 hour session will teach you how to go from Corporate Pretty to Red Carpet Glam, 4 amazing ways! :)

You can book for yourself or invite 2 more friends and make it a Girl's Day out. Healthy Food and refreshments will be served.

A huge thanks to all the beautiful women, whose faces I was privileged to touch. You make my passion for bringing out the best In every women I meet alive!

Email me at annadeleon@live.com for details and hope to see you all soon.

Much love,
Anna
