SPRING/SUMMER 2012 TRENDS: THE SHEERNESS OF YOU:

Hello everyone! I just want to share the outfit that I wore when I attended Art Nights at The Gate Village. Following the sheer trend for Spring Summer 2012, I opted for this ZARA dress and the colour is simply striking! It is not Turquoise, Blue Green? Got to pull out my 96 Crayola Crayons! hehehe. By the way, I am back to black. :)

Hope you all like the outfit.

Love and Light,

A

ART NIGHTS @ THE GATE VILLAGE

I think it was on twitter where I had  mentioned how I love strolling around the art galleries at the Gate Village in DIFC, it calms me, it gives my brain a good cardio work out hehehe. It makes me think more than I usually do, which is a lot, by the way. It inspires me and sometimes I do chuckle at some pieces, which, in my humble opinion are trying to hard to be abstract. Well, what do I know, hehehe. But that is just my opinion.

Last May 8, The Gate Village celebrated one of its Art Nights. The theme for the evening was Combining Art, Design, Music & Cuisine in a Contemporary Urban Environment.

There were a lot of notable collections but what I loved the most was Opera Gallery's  "Secret of the Veil" by Lita Cabellut. Lita Cabellut is a Spanish painter who is well known for her unique variation of the fresco style of painting. Prior to the invitation to the Art Night, one of the curators of the Opera Gallery told me that Lita grew up in Barcelona and having been to the city where she takes her inspiration from I simply had to see her work :)

Second to Opera Gallery's offering was Ayyam Gallery's display of Mohannad Orabi's work entitled "It's no longer about me." I have to admit that what drew me to Ayyam Gallery was the huge painting of filled with children and their black expressions. It was haunting and it does leave an impression.

Anyway, I hope you lovelies like the photos from the Galleries that I visited and I will talk to you all soon. :)

BLING IT ON!

If you have noticed I am not very big on accessories. I have always stuck with my staples - my heirloom earrings, cross necklace and watch, so, if I actually accessorize, it means that I actually love the piece. :)

So, hope you like my choice of accessories. :)

GIRLY AND RETRO

Hi there Lovelies! To all my friends in the US, hope you are all enjoying your long holiday. Happy Memorial Day! :)

I wanted to share the outfit that I wore, I think a week and a half ago when I had dinner with my girlfriends with you because it features one of my wardrobe must haves... the white shirt. I am sure you have seen this white shirt already and I am not one to be ashamed to admit that I do repeat my clothes. I think that accessorizing and your wardrobe staples and pairing with the 'unusual suspects' will always give it a fresh look.

I think I have about 5 to 6 white shirts in my wardrobe but what made me choose this ZARA white shirt as The One is because of a few reasons - the fabric is light enough for me to layer with during the colder months and light enough to be worn alone during the warmer months. I love the not so feminine detailing of the shirt - this came out when the military look was in vogue. This means, I can have more fun in accessorizing as you will see in the photos.

As we move along, you will see a few more pairings with this wardrobe staple of mine and hope that it inspires you to mix and match your must haves as well. :)

I felt that the floral skirt and my slight wavy hair that day evoked a little retro feel, so I donned the some eyeliner and went bright for my lips using MAC's Magenta lipliner.

BRAUN HAIR PRIDE PARADE

Hi My Lovelies! Hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It has been 2 swamped weekends and for me and I can't blame myself! I just love working! :) Everyday, I wake up and give thanks to Him for giving me what I would call my gift. :)

I have been extremely late in sharing with you lovelies the events that I had attended over the last 2 weeks. So, without further a do, let me start with BRAUN'S HAIR PRIDE PARADE at The Westin Mena Sayahi.

I may not write much about hair but for someone who has tried going from highlighted hair to red to black in less than 6 months, I take caring for my hair seriously. Before going on a coloring rampage, BRAUN introduced me to their amazing ION Tech hair tools and even though my hair has been processed so many times, using these tools did not damage it.

So, here are the photos from the even and I hope that you all like it! :)

EARTHY SMOKEY EYES

Being a Make Up Artist and being surrounded by so much colour and texture, sometimes I find it hard to choose which colour combination to do first. It is dizzying but in a good way, like seeing your crush dizzy! lol!

Anyway, a week and half ago, I attended Braun's Hair Pride Parade at The Westin Hotel, Mena Seyahi and decided to do a smokey eye but this time not using the traditional black, brown or blue. I decided to combine green, brown and a little black. :)

Hope you guys like this look and encourages you to experiment with not your usual colour combinations. :)

Love and Light,

I USED BEN NYE'S TAUPE EYEBROW PENCIL TO FILL IN MY BROWS AND BENEFIT'S BROW ZINGS IN LIGHT TO MAKE IT LOOK MORE NATURAL.

FOR THE EYES
I STARTED MY EYE MAKE UP BY PRIMING MY LID WITH URBAN DECAY'S PRIMER POTION THEN LINING MY WATERLINE WITH MAC'S PEARLGLIDE EYE LINER IN UNDERCURRENT.

I am going to try my level best to catch up on all my blog requests this week as some of them have been pending for 2 or even 3 weeks already.

ALL ABOUT BRUSHES: ABOUT FACE!

Hi Lovelies! :) How was your weekend? I was completely knackered! Last Friday, I participated in the dance mob organised by Fitness First at the Burj Steps. Can you guess what we danced? THRILLER!!! It was very hot but I have to admit that I had soooo much fun! I would definitely sign up again :)

Saturday was yet another busy day for me. I had an early call time at 0800 to shoot with the talented Fatinizia. She is a Columbian singer based in Dubai and she simply rocks! She is nothing like Shakira except for that sexy Columbian allure that they both exude, Fatinizia is a rocker by heart. Her songs, aside from great lyrics has got a catchy tunes that will definitely get you stomping your feet. :) Will talk about the shoot on a another post.

Anyway, did I digress?! Something that I seem to be fond of doing! So soooorry! Got a query regarding brushes through BBM and since all my brushes were out and clean, I decided to to this post ahead of all the others that I am scheduled to do.

This is not a post on my favourite brushes rather about the basic brushes that an aspiring Make Up Artist should have in his or her kit.

So, lovelies, hope you are all having an amazing Monday evening and hope you like this post. :)

Love and Light,

FACE BRUSHES

WE WILL GO FROM MY LEFT TO RIGHT
WHEN YOU ARE STARTING YOUR MAKE UP ARTIST KIT, IT IS IMPORTANT TO INVEST IN GOOD BRUSHES.

NUMBER ONE: THEY WILL BE WITH YOU FOR A LONG TIME GIVEN THAT YOU TAKE GOOD CARE OF THEM. SO, THEY ARE WORTH THE INVESTMENT

NUMBER TWO: THE GOOD BRUSHES ACHIEVE RESULTS. THEY MAKE YOUR JOB EASIER.

STARTING FROM THE LEFT.
SIGMA POWDER BRUSH F30: THIS IS ESSENTIAL IN SETTING YOUR FOUNDATION.

SIGMA STIPPLING BRUSH F50: I FIND USING THE STIPPLING BRUSH MAKES ANY FULL COVERAGE FOUNDATION LOOK NATURAL, LESS THICK AND MORE LIKE YOUR REAL SKIN.

I SOMETIMES USE THIS FOR BLUSH TOO.

MAC CONTOUR BRUSH 168: THIS ANGLED BRUSH MAKES CREATING CHEEKBONES A BREEZE. THIS CAN ALSO DOUBLE AS A BLUSHER BRUSH WHEN YOU WANT TO CREATE UBER SCULPTED LOOKS REMINISCENT OF THE 80'S.

SIGMA F60 BRUSH:THIS IS ANOTHER GREAT LIQUID FOUNDATION BRUSH.

MAC 224 BRUSH: I USE THIS TO BLEND MY CONCEALER, I ALSO USE THIS WHEN I NEED TO POWDER SMALL AREAS OF THE FACE AND WHEN I WANT TO LEAVE THE SKIN UNPOWDERED AND DEWY.

MAKE UP FOREVER 5N BRUSH: AS YOU CAN SEE, THIS HAS BEEN USED A LOT, THUS, THE SILVER COATING OF THE HANDLE IS GONE. I HAVE A LOT OT SYNTHETIC CONCEALER BRUSHES BUT BY FAR, MUFE'S 5N IS THE BEST FOR ME. THE TIP IS ANGLED IN SUCH A WAY THAT HARD TO REACH AREAS WILL BE MORE ACCESSIBLE TO CONCEAL. MOST CONCEALER BRUSHES HAVE ROUND TOPS, IT MAKES YOU MISS SOME AREAS.

MAKE UP FOREVER 2S BRUSH: I HAVE LOOKED EVERYWHERE FOR A BRUSH LIKE THIS, HOWEVER, I HAVE NOT FOUND ANY THAT CAN SPOT CONCEAL AS BEST THIS MUFE 2S BRUSH. I LOVE THIS BRUSH!

INGLOT DOUBLE SIDED BRUSH: TO THOSE WHO HAVE ATTENDED MY WORKSHOPS, THEY WOULD KNOW JUST HOW MUCH I ADORE THIS BRUSH.
THE SHAPE OF THIS BRUSH IS THE PERFECT SIZE FOR THE APPLES OF YOUR CHEEKS.

THIS, FOR ME SERVES FOR PURPOSES. THIS CAN POWDER, THE OTHER SIDE CAN BLUSH.

THE TAPERED PART IS PERFECT FOR CONTOURING THE CHEEKS, TEMPLES AND YOUR JAWS. WHEN YOU CLEAN IT, IT CAN ALSO BE USED AS A HIGHLIGHTER BRUSH.

THIS LANDS IN MY TOP 3 FACE BRUSHES.

EVERYDAY KABUKI BRUSH: THIS BRUSH HAS THE PERFECT DOME SHAPE TIP WHICH MAKES HIGHLIGHTING EASY. IT ABSORBS SO MUCH PRODUCT.

LAST BUT NOT THE LEAST,
NARS' YACHIYO KABUKI BRUSH: FOR 50 USD, THIS BRUSH SHOULD WIELD MIRACLES! LOL! AND FRANCOIS NARS DID NOT FAIL.

THIS IS ONE OF THE MULTI TASKED BRUSHES THAT, THOUGH EXPENSIVE, YOU JUST GOT TO HAVE IT KIND OF A BRUSH.

IT IS EXTREMELY SOFT, THE SHAPE IS PERFECT FOR THE CHEEKS, THE TAPERED TIP WORKS WELL WITH CONTOURING, EVEN ON THE SIDES OF THE NOSE. I HAVE ALSO USED THE TIP FOR HIGHLIGHTING.

MY FACE BRUSHES
THIS HAS MOSTLY NATURAL HAIRED BRUSHES.

ALL ABOUT THE UNDER EYES

Whenever I get questions about Skin Care, Make Up, Fashion by email I always try to reply as quick;y as possible, however, there are occasions when I do not get to give all the information that I want because I am either replying to them through my phone and I some how forgot the name of the product or simply because their concerns/issues are very important that a reply through my bb is not just enough. (FYI: Skin Care, Make Up and Fashion Concerns are important)

One of the mails that I got was about her growing concern over her dark circles and though all mails are important to me, I took it upon myself to write about under eye care first as this issue is something that I emphasize each and every time I speak to a woman (even a man needs to take care of his dark circles. For this, gents you have to try the Cream from Clarins). I even dedicate a portion about under eye care during my workshops.

Why did I choose to talk about under eye care first. Well, to those who aren't aware, the skin under our eye are is the thinnest, thus, very prone to premature aging. This, our neck and hands can tell our age. I started using eye creams as early as 25, I think that ladies and gents should probably start earlier.

So, aside from dark circles being a genetic issue, how do you get it? Obviously, lack of sleep, not enough moisture and dehydration are also culprits. It could be hormonal especially if you are menopausing. Aside from expensive serums and creams, drinking 8 glasses of water day does help.It helps keep you hydrated.

Let us take a closer look at our under eye are as we age.

20's
When you are young and at your 20's and partying like there is no tomorrow and you don't get enough sleep, but you are still lucky because your skin still has that elasticity and the damages can be reversed. Smoking sucks out the Vitamin A from your skin causing it to dry up and lose its elasticity.

30's
Provided that you started using eye creams at an early age, your under eye area should have little fine lines, doesn't get puffy. Once you hit your 30's two things you should remember: 1) sunglasses when you are heading out and 2) sunscreen. The rays of the sun dries you up and when you get dehydrated, dark circles form. To explain why the lack of moisture around the under eye area causes it to get dark, look at your elbows or knees, if it is dry, it darken, try moisturising it daily and see if it lightens up.

40's
When you hit the big 4-0, your skin tends to get thinner and drier, your blood vessels gets more dilated  and this creates the perfect venue for dark circles.

After reading my post again, it does boil down to keeping our under eye are hydrated.

MY UNDER EYE CREAMS
I HAVE BEEN USING ESTEE LAUDER'S ADVANCE NIGHT REPAIR AT NIGHT AND GARNIER'S EYE BRIGHTENING EYE ROLL ON IN THE MORNING.

ASIDE FROM THESE 2 I ALSO USED CREME DE LA MER'S EYE CREAM AND I WILL BE POSTING THE LINK TO MY REVIEW AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS POST.

FOR CONCEALING DARK CIRCLES, I USE A CORRECTOR FIRST. LIKE WHAT I HAVE MENTIONED, DARK CIRCLES ARE CAUSED BY DEHYDRATION SO, IF YOU PILE ON THE CONCEALER, YOUR UNDER EYE AREA WILL LOOK SO CAKEY.

USE A CORRECTOR FIRST LIKE THIS ONE FROM MAKE UP FOREVER. USE THE SALMON COLOURED ONE, FOR EXTREME CASES USE MAC'S ORANGE.

YOU CAN USE YOUR FINGER BUT PLEASE DO NOT RUB, JUST PAT THE PRODUCT IN GENTLY.

AFTER APPLYING YOUR CORRECTOR YOU CAN APPLY YOUR FAVOURITE CONCEALER. FOR DARK CIRCLES, BEAR IN MIND TO GET A YELLOW UNDER TONED CONCEALER TO COMBAT THE VIOLET/PINK UNDER TONES OF THE DARK CIRCLES.

WHEN REMOVING YOUR EYE MAKE UP, I SUGGEST TO USE BIODERMA'S SENSIBIO H20. THIS IS AMAZING FOR YOUR EYES AND EVEN FOR THE REST OF YOUR FACE.
