DUBAI TANGO FESTIVAL

The 3rd Dubai Tango Festival wrapped up with a Gala Dinner at the JW Marriott Hotel in Dubai last April 18 and I was fortunate enough to have witnessed such a captivating evening. Actually, to say captivating would be an understatement as I was completely in awe with the performances that evening.

The Festival brought in world renowned Tango dancers from Argentina to the sandy shores of Dubai for this special evening. According to the Argentinian Ambassodor His Excellency , this festival wishes to share the beauty and grace of this South American dance. And boy, did it do its job, I was ready to tango the following day! J

The Gala Evening also featured the photos by Ahmed Al Agouzal, Tifffany Schultz. Olesya Sydorenko, an artist also showed her collection of paintings.

I was in a trance during the performances of Alejandra Hobert with Adrian Veredice and the salon style of Facundo Jauregui was simply smooth but what moved were the performances of Lucila Cionci and Rodrigo Corbata. They had 3 dance numbers which, basing on the facial expressions of the couple and body language depicted a love story. The Courtship – the number started with the man serenading the woman with the Harmonica. The marriage part was full of intense moves. Then the couple falls apart – I could tell because of the anguish in the woman’s face, how she held on to her husband’s arms and the nonchalance on the husband’s face but all is well that ends well, they find themselves back in each other’s arms.

It is not one of my normal posts but since I believe that TANGO is truly an art form and Fashion for me is art, I thought of just sharing this experience with you. Besides Summer is fast approaching and you may want to learn a new skill J

WHAT'S YOUR BEAUTY PERSONALITY? - THE BOMBSHELL

The Come Hither Eyes and Red Lips. Perfect Combination to bring out the playful side in you.

Keep the skin flawless by investing in a full coverage foundation. I used Estee Lauder Double Wear Foundation and Powder.

What is a bombshell without her red lipstick. Make sure you fill your entire lips with a liner to avoid the lippy from running.

This is out of context but when I did this tutorial, I forgot my eyebrow pencil. When given this predicament just put some water on your angled brush and dip in a brown eyeshadow. This gives definition and sets the brow in place.

I also happen to have forgotten my liquid liner, which is an integral part to making this look. When you are as forgetful as I am, the angled brush dipped in water and black shadow is your best bet :)

When you contour the eye, extend all the way to the inner 1/4 of the brow to create the sleepy effect.

Your Beauty Icon: Dita Von Teese

Okay, first things first, I dont think I am a bombshell. hehehe. Now that we have that out of the way, lets start with this other beauty personality.

Sexy is your operative word, body con dresses that show your shape is staple in your wardrobe and you'll never be caught dead without your big sunnies sans maquillage, red lipstick and your stlilletos. You call your stilletos your slippers :) If you find yourself nodding in agreement with any of the following then you are THE BOMBSHELL :)

Women with alabaster skin can pull of this look perfectly, however, even if you dont have the makings of Dita Von Teese, (complexion wise) the right shade of red lipstick can instantly make you feel sexy.

The key to pulling off this look is flawlessness so take time in perfecting the base. It also calls for defining the eyes with liner but not to much so as to keep the sleepy eyes effect. The signature look of the original bombshell, Marilyn Monroe.

So, whip out that red lipstick, be the bombshell and paint the town RED!

DUBAI FASHION WEEK A/W 2010

Dubai Fashion Week's last day in
ZARA jacket, Zara top, Forever 21 Jeans, Zara Boots and Gucci Bag

The recently concluded Dubai Fashion Week was not all about Fashion, at least for me. It was more than that. It was about touching base with friends who I haven’t seen in ages because of our busy schedules, meeting new ones, and seeing new talents.

People say that Art imitates Life, I can say the same thing for Fashion. We were taught in IED to always be on the look out for possible trends, we were sent out for a half a day on ground researches, surf the net (cool hunting) for what’ s in and what’s out globally, see what people are wearing.

I honestly, don’t know what the rights words are to express how I felt about the Fashion Week. For sure , there were items that I did love. I think HSY’s men’s collection was amazing. I heart the jackets, Michael Cinco’s amazing collection, the silhouette of Furne One’s theatrical masterpieces, Warda’s understated glamour. The intros to each show was well thought of. HSY’s intro was very sentimental and it is great that the designer paid tribute to his grandmother, Furne One’s intro sent shivers up my spine. However, there are things that you also can’t over look, say, like..... hmmmmm, how do I say it without sounding mean..... can’t find the words.... I am sorry but I have to say this.... Cheap fabric made to look expensive by overtly beading the creation. Perhaps to the not so keen eye it is okay but to the trained eye, they know better.

I have always had an idea of how one should dress up when attending a fashion show, some can be tailored, sharp, sexy (think Alt, Roitfeld, Lanphear) Some can be outrageous (think Piaggi) some just go as they are because their names are enough J (Wintour and Coddington). Again, I am in a situation where I am trying to find the right words to properly articulate how I feel without sounding bad...... but some people who attended the shows were just showing too much skin. I mean, I am not at all conservative and I believe in `when you have it, flaunt it.’ mantra but too much from the top and bottom in a majorly body hugging dress with something big dangling from the top was just an eye sore. It could have been an eye candy but... but... but.... toooooo much butssss. I am sorry, I don’t know how I could have worded it any better. L

The Dubai Fashion Week is indeed a circus. In a good way, of course. Some will make you laugh, some will awe you and some will make you cringe but it is my sincere hope that next year will be different... I can see that the designers are indeed getting better and better I hope that I can say the same for the spectators.
